University of Glasgow and BubbleRAN shortlisted for the C2I Awards 2026

29 Oct, 2026

A collaboration between the University of Glasgow and BubbleRAN, led by Professor Qammer H. Abbasi and Professor Muhammad Ali Imran, has been shortlisted in the Healthcare & Medical category at The Engineer’s 2026 Collaborate to Innovate (C2I) Awards.

The team’s work on Integrated Sensing and Communication using BubbleRAN O-RAN for Remote Healthcare explores how integrated sensing and communication can support remote healthcare applications.

Supported by CHEDDAR Hub and the Centre for Integrated Sensing, Communication and Computing for Cognitive Cities (ISAC³), the collaboration brings academic research and industry expertise together to develop and test new approaches to advanced connectivity.

Recognising the team behind the research

The shortlisting recognises the contributions of colleagues across the University of Glasgow and BubbleRAN.

Alongside Professor Abbasi and Professor Imran, the Glasgow team includes Dr Saber Hassouna, Dr Jalil ur Rehman Kazim, Dr Shuja Ansari and Dr Burak Kızılkaya, working with Navid Nikaein and the BubbleRAN team.

Their combined expertise highlights the value of university–industry collaboration in connecting research ideas with practical engineering challenges.

Exploring future healthcare applications

Integrated sensing and communication combines the ability to transmit information with the ability to sense the surrounding environment. The collaboration explores how these capabilities, combined with BubbleRAN’s O-RAN technology, could support remote healthcare.

For CHEDDAR, this recognition celebrates the people and partnerships helping to connect future communications research with potential real-world applications.

Congratulations to the entire team and all the shortlisted finalists. We look forward to celebrating their achievements at the awards ceremony on 25 February 2027 at One Great George Street, London.
