Professor Muhammad Ali Imran appointed to Scottish Science Advisory Council

CHEDDAR congratulates Professor Muhammad Ali Imran of the University of Glasgow on his appointment to the Scottish Science Advisory Council (SSAC).

Professor Imran brings extensive expertise in communications and signal processing engineering, with a particular focus on future communications technologies. His appointment will bring valuable insight from the advanced connectivity research community to Scotland’s highest-level science advisory body.

The SSAC provides independent scientific advice to the Chief Scientific Adviser for Scotland and supports the Scottish Government by bringing scientific evidence and expertise into the development of policy and strategy.

Professor Imran’s appointment reflects the growing importance of communications technologies, including future networks, wireless systems and 6G, in addressing wider economic and societal priorities.

For CHEDDAR, it is particularly encouraging to see expertise from the future communications research community contributing directly to evidence-led policymaking. Connecting leading research with government and policy is essential if emerging technologies are to deliver meaningful benefits for society, the economy and public services.

Professor Imran, Head of the Communications, Sensing, and Imaging (CSI) research hub at the University of Glasgow, and CHEDDAR Hub Principle Investigator, contributes expertise across advanced communications and next-generation network technologies.

His appointment also strengthens the representation of communications expertise within the SSAC and provides an important opportunity for knowledge from the sector to help inform Scotland’s ambitions in science, technology and innovation.
