CHEDDAR to Showcase Contactless Healthcare Research at Connected Britain 2026

The CHEDDAR Hub will join the Federated Telecoms Hubs at Connected Britain 2026, taking place at ExCeL London on 9–10 September.

Bringing together leaders from across telecommunications, technology, government, academia and industry, Connected Britain provides an important platform for exploring the technologies and partnerships shaping the UK’s connected future.

Visitors can meet CHEDDAR alongside the HASC and TITAN hubs on Stand K30, while the JOINER Hub will be exhibiting nearby on Stand K25.

Where radar meets healthcare

At this year’s event, CHEDDAR will demonstrate a Radar-Based Contactless Stethoscope for 6G-Enabled Healthcare.

The proof of concept explores how radar sensing, artificial intelligence and future communications networks could be used to monitor physiological activity without requiring wearable or attached sensors.

By detecting tiny movements associated with the body’s vital functions, radar-based systems could support unobtrusive monitoring in a range of future healthcare settings. Potential applications include supporting patients at home, monitoring within clinical environments and developing intelligent healthcare systems that can operate continuously without physical contact.

The demonstration highlights how research across communications, sensing and AI could contribute to a new generation of connected healthcare technologies.

Visitors to Stand K30 will have the opportunity to see the technology in action, meet the researchers behind the work and discuss its potential real-world applications.

Professor Julie McCann joins the Connected Britain programme

Professor Julie McCann, Director of the CHEDDAR Hub and Professor of Computer Systems at Imperial College London, will also contribute to two sessions during Connected Britain 2026.

On Wednesday 9 September at 10:55, Professor McCann will take part in a session exploring the development of the AI-driven city and how intelligent digital infrastructure could support more responsive, sustainable and connected urban environments.

She will return on Thursday 10 September at 11:40 for a discussion focused on smart buildings and the intelligent home, examining how emerging technologies could transform the spaces in which people live and work.

These sessions will provide an opportunity to explore how advanced connectivity, distributed computing, sensing and AI could support future cities, buildings and public services.

Connected Britain will also provide an opportunity to learn more about the wider Federated Telecoms Hubs programme and the research being undertaken across CHEDDAR, HASC, TITAN and JOINER.

Together, the hubs are advancing UK research in future telecommunications, bringing universities, industry and government together to explore the technologies needed for secure, resilient, sustainable and inclusive future networks.

Through demonstrations, discussions and engagement with the connectivity community, the hubs will showcase how research is moving beyond theory towards practical technologies and applications.
