Dr Mengbang Zou Secures NVIDIA Grant to Advance 6G Edge Intelligence

31 Mar, 2026

Dr Mengbang Zou has been awarded an NVIDIA Academic Grant to advance next-generation edge systems central to emerging 6G visions that bring together communication, sensing, and computing to enable ultra-low-latency, real-time intelligent applications. To achieve this, networks embed intelligence throughout their architecture, supporting distributed learning and inference at the edge rather than relying solely on centralised cloud resources.

Within this paradigm, edge AI agents operate across highly diverse and dynamic environments, spanning cyber-physical scales from silicon-level hardware to the electromagnetic spectrum. This project addresses these challenges by embedding physical constraints directly into distributed edge AI agents, ensuring reliable performance across complex and evolving conditions.

Reflecting on the award, Dr Zou said:

This grant enables us to bridge theoretical advances with real-world deployment, ensuring that distributed edge AI systems can operate reliably across complex and dynamic environments. It is an exciting step towards building intelligent, resilient infrastructure for future 6G networks. I am grateful for the support of Prof. Weisi Guo and CHEDDAR in enabling this research.

The grant supports research at the intersection of AI and next-generation networks, strengthening the connection between theoretical innovation and real-world impact, and contributing to the development of distributed edge AI systems for future 6G infrastructure.
