CHEDDAR congratulates Professor Syed Ali Raza Zaidi on his promotion at the University of Leeds

The CHEDDAR Hub congratulates Professor Syed Ali Raza Zaidi on his promotion to Professor at the University of Leeds, recognising his contributions to research in wireless communications, AI-native networks and next-generation connectivity.

Professor Zaidi is a CHEDDAR Principal Investigator at the University of Leeds and leads the Hub’s Emergent Systems research pillar. His work focuses on advancing intelligent, adaptive and resilient communications systems, helping to shape the development of future wireless networks.

As the driving force behind SPRINT Lab at the University of Leeds, Professor Zaidi has played a key role in advancing research on AI-native networks, wireless communications and emerging 6G technologies.

His research and leadership support CHEDDAR’s broader ambition to bring together expertise from across the UK to develop innovative, sustainable, and intelligent communications systems.

Reflecting on his achievement and the role of CHEDDAR

Speaking about his promotion, Professor Zaidi reflected on the importance of collaboration, the research community, and the opportunities created by CHEDDAR:

“CHEDDAR has been a vital part of my journey and success, and I feel privileged to be part of such a unique and collaborative hub. What makes CHEDDAR truly special is its ability to bring together distributed pockets of excellence across the UK around a shared vision, translating collective expertise into world-leading research and innovation. For me, CHEDDAR has been much more than a research hub; it has been a family, within which I have had the opportunity to contribute to and co-develop a world-leading programme in AI-native telecommunications systems.

I owe much of this journey to the entire CHEDDAR family, including our collaborators, researchers, and research assistants, whose commitment, ideas, and positive energy continue to drive us forward. This achievement is as much a reflection of that collective effort as it is of my individual journey”.

In many ways, we are only just beginning the next phase of this journey. With the foundations we have built together, I am incredibly excited about what lies ahead and look forward to shifting gears, raising our ambitions and working together to deliver the next wave of transformative advances in AI-native networks and future connectivity.”
