“AI in Intelligent Networks” Awareness Day

30 Oct, 2025

Hosted by techUK, this awareness campaign highlights how artificial intelligence is reshaping the telecommunications ecosystem from the core to the edge. It brings together academia, industry, and policymakers to explore how AI can improve network automation, performance, and resilience, driving the UK’s ambition to lead in AI-enabled connectivity in 6G innovation.

Exploring the Future: Embedding Native AI in 6G Telecom Infrastructure

As part of techUK’s Awareness Day, Professor Weisi Guo from Cranfield University and the CHEDDAR Hub explores “The Challenge and Opportunity: Embedding Native AI in 6G Telecom Infrastructure to Create New Services.”

Telecommunications have long been the invisible backbone of modern life powering everything from data in stadiums to autonomous drones in the sky. Yet, despite their ubiquity, profit margins are narrow and growth has plateaued.

With 6G, that’s set to change.

By embedding native AI directly into telecom infrastructure, networks can host advanced AI services at the edge, closer to users: faster, smarter, and more personalised than ever before.

At the CHEDDAR Hub, researchers are exploring how agentic AI can transform telecoms into self-programming, adaptive systems, enabling:
• New value-added services
• Energy aware service deployment
• Lower AI latency
• Enhanced trust and security

These breakthroughs have the potential to redefine how connectivity is delivered turning networks into intelligent platforms that both learn and evolve in real time.
