CHEDDAR Hub Showcases Next-Generation Health Technologies at Ayrshire Health & Social Care Innovation Workshop

5 Nov, 2025

CHEDDAR Hub and the Communication, Sensing and Imaging (CSI) at the University of Glasgow took centre stage at the Ayrshire Health & Social Care Innovation Workshop, hosted at the University of the West of Scotland (UWS) Ayr Campus. The event brings together leading academics, clinicians, and industry experts to explore how digital innovation including AI, advanced connectivity, and patient-centred technologies is reshaping the future of health and social care.

The workshop features a rich programme of talks and panels, including Katriona Brooksbank (NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde) on AI in healthcare ethics and legalities, and a thought-provoking panel on the challenges and opportunities for digital health featuring Professor Qammer H. Abbasi, Core team member of CHEDDAR Hub. His presentation highlighted cutting-edge advances in contactless sensing, 5G/6G-enabled healthcare systems, and Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) – technologies that are laying the groundwork for smarter, more connected healthcare infrastructure.

At the exhibition, the CHEDDAR Hub and CSI booth attracted continuous interest throughout the day. Demonstrations of RFIoT, contactless vital signs monitoring, Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS), and the non-invasive Blood Glucose Level monitoring system capture the attention of attendees, sparking conversations around how these innovations could enhance patient experience and enable real-time, data-driven care.

Representing the University of Glasgow, Dr Muhammad Farooq, Dr Muhammad Zakir, Mr Shujat Ali, and Prisila Ishabakaki showcased CHEDDAR’s healthcare research portfolio, engaging with visitors from UWS Ayr Campus, the University of Glasgow, NHS Scotland, and the South Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership.

This event proves to be a vibrant platform for networking and collaboration, strengthening ties between academia and the healthcare sector. The strong interest in CHEDDAR’s contactless sensing and 5G/6G research highlights the growing recognition of these technologies as enablers of the next wave of digital health transformation.
